Signed India and Cambodia today two memoranda of understanding related to tourism and another umbrella project under the initiative of the Mekong Ganga Cooperation (This covers five quick impact projects which include two in care health, one on women’s empowerment through information and communications technology, one on agriculture and another a 50,000 US dollar grant for the development of Cambodia-India Entrepreneurship Centre ( CIEDC) which was launched in February 2006).

  • The applicant must present a certificate of residence as evidence that he or she was a resident of the state for the past 15 years.

The Union government today approved the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission, a crore worth Rs 5142.

  • The mission is to provide urban facilities in rural areas.
  • The mission, which was announced last year to replace PURA (Provision of Urban Services in rural areas) UPA government initiative aims to improve people’s quality of life there in involving the government this time.

  • The government banned today Naga militant outfit NSCN-K for five years.
  • NSCN-K was involved in a series of attacks, including the killing of 18 army soldiers in Manipur in June.

Awards and Recognition

Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina was announced as one of the winners of the Champions of the Earth United Nations in recognition of his country’s initiatives to fight against climate change.

  • The awards will be presented at a special ceremony on September 27 in New York at the Summit on Sustainable Development.

In addition to Sheikh Hasina, the other winners are announced so far,

  • National Geographic Society (Science and Innovation);
  • Brazilian company Natura cosmetics (Entrepreneurial Vision);
  • Black anti-poaching Mamba South Africa Unit (Inspiration and Action).

American Indian Swetha Prabhakaran, was honored with the award for the White House Champions of Change.

  • She is the founder of a nonprofit organization called “Everyone code now! which raises funds for stem activity in schools (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Surveillance Cooperation and exchange of supervisory information” with the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

  • The MoU was signed by the executive director Narayan Prasad Paudel Nepal Rastra Bank and the Executive Director Meena Hemchandra RBI.
  • Note: With this the RBI has signed 27 memoranda of understanding, cooperation of supervisory letter and a declaration of cooperation.

The Reserve Bank of India has awarded (RBI) announced today a sign of principle 10 candidates for small corporate banking.

  • Note: A small corporate banking, according to RBI, should have 75 percent of its adjusted net bank credit to be extended to priority sectors and it should have atleast 25 branches in unbanked rural areas.
