Today (17th July) is World Day for International Justice (International Day of Justice).

  • This day is celebrated around the world as part of an effort to recognize the emerging system of international criminal justice.
  • July 17 was chosen to celebrate this day because it is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the treaty that created the International Criminal Court (ICC).

National Affairs

The joint investigation between India and Bangladesh for the exchange of 162 enclaves along the northern border of Bengal ended after about 61 thousand people living in these enclaves put opinion in resolving their citizenship.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has signed a special currency swap agreement with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

  • Under this arrangement, the bank of Sri Lanka can draw up to $ 1.1 billion for a period of six months.
  • Note: In March 2015, the RBI had signed a currency swap agreement with Sri Lanka’s Central Bank for $ 400 million under the existing currency swap SAARC framework within the overall limit of $ 2 billion.
  • The Government of India, Andhra Pradesh and the World Bank signed a deal for $ 250 million of financial assistance in respect of Andhra Pradesh Restoration Project disaster which in turn help the state enhance its ability to respond quickly and effectively in a disaster.

The government has extended price caps at 39 other medicines, including medicines to treat diabetes and digestive problems as part of its efforts to make medicines affordable in the country.

  • European Union approves an emergency loan of $ 7.8 billion for Greece to meet its urgent repayment obligations.

Technology Scientist

INS Astravahini ‘, a torpedo recovery vessel and built locally (TLRV), was decommissioned today, after nearly 31 years of service.

  • An auxiliary ship TLRV class, the ship was commissioned Nov. 5, 1984, in Visakhapatnam, the headquarters of the command of the Navy of the East.
  • The only one of its class, the ship was used extensively by NSTL (Naval Science & Technological Laboratory) as a test platform to launch and recover experimental torpedo before incorporation into the Navy.
