  • MSP will encourage farmers to increase greater paddy seedlings.

The government today approved Bureau of Indian Standards Bill 2015, a new bill to replace the 29 Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act in order to bring more products under the mandatory standard regime and end the inspector raj ‘.

  • To ensure quality products to consumers, the new bill proposes to provide more articles under the mandatory system.
  • Currently, only products and systems are within the scope of standards, the bill proposes to “include services in addition to products and processes under normalization”.
  • Note: Currently, 92 products are under mandatory standards.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today agreed to the continuation and strengthening of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs) and place new layout with an outlay of Rs.3,900 crore.

  • The scheme provides for the continuation of 642 existing KVKs and establish 109 new KVKs during the 12 Five Year Plan (2012-17) to conduct a wide range of mandated activities.
  • The project includes the introduction of new components, namely information and communication technology (ICT) in agriculture, Farmer FIRST program, the creation of agricultural innovation funds, disaster management funds and the information technology units, an official statement said Wednesday. It also includes seed treatment facilities mini, micro nutrient analysis, solar panels, vkvk (voice KVK) and net and specialized KVK KVKs.

Government today launched its “housing for all by 2022 mission and approved a substantial increase in interest relief on loans for urban poor to promote affordable housing.

  • The Union Cabinet has accepted the recommendations of an interministerial committee to increase the interest subsidy of 6.50 percent on loans to the beneficiaries belonging to the lower economic section (EWS), including slum dwellers and low-income groups (Ligs).
  • The Cabinet decision has urban poor amounting to Rs 2.30 lakh each and following this the monthly EMI amount to Rs 2,852 per month.
