In a major change in the national blood policy, blood banks will now be able to borrow units from each other in case of shortage.

  • The Ministry of Health of the Union has taken this decision in the context of the reform of the handling of blood units in the country.

Important points to note:

  • The shortage of blood units has been a recurring problem since the Supreme Court on 1 January 1998, banned paid donation.
  • According to CDSCO, India has 2,760 licensed blood banks.

The Delhi government will set up a panel with a group of ministers to examine the enhancement of punishment for those convicted of raping minors.

  • The panel will consider a proposal to lower the age of juvenile delinquency 18-15.
