Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch three ambitious projects to develop towns and cities of tomorrow.

The three projects are

  • Smart Cities Mission: The 48,000 crore Smart Cities Mission aims to apply intelligent solutions to improve infrastructure and services in cities.
  • Atal Mission for rejuvenation and urban transformation (AMRUT): The Mission AMRUT worth 50,000 crore rupees. This mission is a development 500 cities with a population of more than one infrastructure lakh.
  • Housing for All: The “housing for all” mission will give decent housing to all the needy, especially the economically weaker sections and low income groups.
  • Union Minister of Urban Development: M Venkaiah Naidu

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the establishment of six new branches of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

These new IIMs will be located

  • Vishakhapatnam,
  • Bodh Gaya (Bihar)
  • Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh)
  • Nagpur, Sambalpur (Orissa) and
  • Note: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of the Union in July 2014 was, in his budget speech promised to establish five new IIM in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa and Punjab.

Cabinet decided to set up National Memorial in memory of the socialist leader Jai Prakash Narayan in Bihar (Lala Ka Tola).

  • The Memorial will house a virtual museum and an institute to undertake the study and research on democracy, strengthen the role of panchayats in building the nation, Thoughts of Gandhi, and center of Khadi and constructive work without losing sight of the thoughts of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan, Lok Nayak with Gaurav Samvardhan Khadi Kendra in one place to make national flags by women cluster (s).

The mobile application Bhuvan is a friendly Android-based application to allow public to gather and provide information on the various sources of pollution that affect the quality of river Ganga water.

  • Seeking cooperation for the withdrawal of currency notes from circulation before 2005, the RBI has asked the public to deposit the old design notes in their bank accounts or exchange them at a branch of the bank that suits them.
  • The reasoning behind the move to remove notes printed before 2005 was removed from the market because they have fewer security features compared with bank notes printed after 2005.
  • Note: The previous deadline was 1 January but later the Reserve Bank of India had extended to the end of this month.
