Today is Halloween.

  • The word Halloween is the time to “hallowed evening ‘, and is the day before All Hallows Day – also known as All Saints’ Day.

Today (31st October) is World Day of saving.

  • This day was established October 31, 1924, during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks) in Milan, Italy.

BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – signed the Moscow Declaration of co-investment of resources to support the multilateral research and development (R & D) projects in mutually agreed areas.

  • The declaration was signed at the third meeting of the BRICS ministers for science, technology and innovation held in Moscow, Russia.

Indian delegation to the meeting was led by Harsh Vardhan Dr, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences.

Technology Science

The communication satellite GSAT-15 ISRO is all set to be launched on the 10th of next month of French Guiana on board the Ariane 5.

  • The Indian space agency to increase telecommunications services had already launched communications satellites GSAT GSAT 14 and 6.
  • GSAT 14 was launched in January 2014 while on GSLV GSAT 6 in August 2015. GSAT-15, developed by ISRO, will provide C and Ku-band telecommunications and navigation services for India.

Business & Economy

To enable Indians living abroad to access the old Income Security age, the Reserve Bank has allowed non-resident Indians (NRI) to subscribe to the national pension system (NPS).

  • NRI can subscribe to NPS governed and administered by the Regulatory Authority and Development Pension Fund (LIFDCs), provided that such subscriptions are made through normal banking channels and the person is eligible to invest in accordance with the Act LIFDCs.
  • The subscription monies must be paid by NRI by depositing on the inside by normal banking channels or funds held in their NRE / FCNR / NRO account.
  • Note: NPS was launched in January 1, 2004, with the objective of providing a retirement income to all citizens. NPS aims to introduce pension reforms and to inculcate the habit of saving for retirement among citizens.
