International Firefighters Day is observed today.

  • It was instituted after proposal by email worldwide January 4, 1999 due to the deaths of five firefighters in tragic circumstances in a forest fire in Australia.

National Affairs

The Punjab government today constituted a five-member committee to give recommendations to ensure passenger safety of women in the public transport system across the state.

  • The committee comprised State Chief Secretary, Chief Assistant Secretary (Home), Principal Secretary (Transport), Secretary Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) would assess the ground realities to suggest ways and means to ensure passenger safety, particularly women, traveling in the public transport system.
  • The committee was asked to submit its report within a month.

The Buddha Poornima International Diwas 2015 was celebrated today.

  • The program is organized by the International Confederation of Buddhism with the support of Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs.


Former leader of the Congress and Minister of Veteran Union Baleshwar Ram died.

  • A five-term MLA from various constituencies of Assembly since 1952, Ram served as minister in various governments of the Congress in Bihar in 1960 and 1970.
