Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) concluded their two-day summit with a commitment to take action on issues ranging from climate change, global trade in conflict Ukraine and the fight against terrorism.

Highlights of the Summit:

  • The leaders agreed that sanctions against Russia should remain in place until the ceasefire in the east of Ukraine is fully respected.
  • The G-7 group also discussed the threats of the Islamic State activist groups and Boko Haram.
  • The G-7 leaders called on all countries to fight against trafficking in human beings, creating a refugee crisis in some of the Mediterranean countries of Europe.
  • They pledged to increase aid to developing countries, and to pursue strict emissions control objectives at the conference on global climate change in France in December.
  • G7 leaders want $ 100 billion spent annually by governments and companies to reduce emissions.
  • The G-7 also pledged to work with 60 countries to improve health and prevent epidemics like the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
  • The leaders pledged to increase opportunities for women to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to support their families.
  • They want more than one third of women have professional training in 2030.
  • The group also reaffirmed the commitment to continue its efforts to achieve the objective of the payment of $ 100 billion per year by 2020 for developing countries to help them cope with climate change.

National Affairs

  • Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said the Centre has approved the inclusion of three new districts – Jind, Karnal and Muzaffarnagar – in the NCR.
  • Note: Jind and Karnal in Haryana are, is Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
  • With this, the total number of districts outside Delhi NCR which form up to 23 among the three neighboring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

  • The RCN is India’s largest and one of the most populated regions of the world with more than five crore people according to the 2011 census.
  • Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) was asked to provide 24 hours power in government hospitals across the state.
  • This includes all district hospitals, district hospitals women and tuberculosis hospitals.
  • Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Union has said the government will invest Rs. 8.5 lakh crore over the next five years to develop the Indian Railways services.
  • Note: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint materials research and engineering was signed between IIT-BHU and railways.

Uttar Pradesh Minister (Minister of Backward Classes Welfare) Ram Murti Singh Verma was booked with five others in connection with the murder of a journalist by him would setting fire in the district of Shahjahanpur.

  • The FIR was filed under IPC 302 (murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Business & Economy

  • The RBI today unveiled the business plan so much talk “strategic restructuring of debt” (SDR) that paves the way for banks to trigger a change in the management of chronic failing firms.
  • With this scheme, the RBI allowed banks to take control of 51 percent stake in a company that failed to recover the financial health even after a period of financial restructuring, usually due to inefficient management or other factors.
  • This provision is intended to ensure outstanding corporate sponsors have more skin in the game.
  • The RBI said it should be approved by 75% of creditors by value and 60 percent in number of the creditors.
